Artwork of the Cascapedia
Thérèse Gallant
Thérèse Gallant was born in Maria, Quebec and is a true gaspesian. She has lived in Cascapedia-St. Jules for over 40 years, along the banks of the Cascapedia River. She has drawn on the river as a great source of inspiration for her work, with its ever changing colours, aspects, lights and shadows, and changing seasons. The magnificent flora and scenic landscape of this unique region fills still marvels her today and her goal is to reproduce it on canvas. Thérèse Gallant is a skilled drawer and painter. She paints on canvas mostly, but will also paint minitures on flat rocks that she picks up along the banks of the Cascapedia River. She also paints bookmarks with watercolour. Four of her paintings have been reproduced on greeting cards, which are on sale at our gift shop.
She works with acrylic, watercolour, and pastel, but she prefers oil to express her attachment to her little corner of the world.
She started drawing and colour lessons in 1964 with Sister Judith at “Institut Familial” in Sainte Anne des Monts. She was a Nicole Bolduc student for 4 years in the 1980s. She studied drawing and illustration at the CEGEP in Carleton in 1986. She was a student of Jean Paul Laplante from 1998 to 2004. She taught painting to adults and children.
