Ogden Minton Pleissner (1905-1983)
Ogden Pleissner was born on April 29, 1905 in Brooklyn, New York. He developed his love of drawing and painting early in life and, from 1922 to 1926, he studied fine art at the Art Students League of New York. Upon graduating, Pleissner alternated his time between teaching at Pratt Institute and painting. He travelled to both the eastern and western coasts of North America painting the beautiful landscapes he encountered.
During the Second World War, he served in the United States Air Force as a war artist. It was during this point in his life that Ogden discovered watercolours (as opposed to the oil based paints he had previously used).
After the war he continued to travel, painting fishing, hunting, and nature landscapes. He died in 1983.
